Keyframes beyond clip extents
Hi All…
a lot of times want a clip to be in motion (scale, rotation) beyond the extents of what’s used on the timeline ( even beyond transitions )
I find this a little clunky to set up, usually involving moving it to a empty track extending the trim, etc…
do any of you guys have a easy less cumbersome way to accomplish this?

Hey Alex,
I understand your question and wish I had a really elegant response for you, but I don’t.
What I do is to move the clip to another track, extend it well beyond where I really need it, add key frames on both the head and tail, then I trim the clip to the length needed.

As long as the enough heads and tails exist you can put the keyframes in. Try it. Put 3 clips back to back to back on a timeline. Highlight the middle one and put your CTI 10 frames before the head then enter in a scale keyframe in the Effects Controls Panel. You won’t see it but it’s there. Then go 10 frames past the end of the clip and enter another scale keyframe. The scaling on the clip will start 10 frames before you see it and continue for 10 frames after the clip ends.
This is easy to check. Say you set your first scale value for 75%. When you check the scale value on the first frame of visible video it will be at like 78% or so.

I don’t know if I understand your problem, maybe on page 329 of premiere pro reference manual, you can find your solution, it is call “Pin To Clip”.

But I nailed the less cumbersome part, didn’t I? And I like Cumbersome. He’s really good in that Sherlock Holmes thing and that new movie too.

When placing a transition after keyframes are set – the program will add handles in the Effect Controls panel. You will notice that the keyframe at the end of the clip is not at the edge of the window.
Just drag that keyframe to the edge of the window put the playhead in effect controls on that last keyframe and you will see the playhead is now at the end of the dissolve.
Same thing works for the head of the clip.
