Hugely long encode times
Hello all.
I have a large ongoing project which requires minor editing and then export of over 18hrs of r3d files per week.
I was hoping for the sake of simplicity, I could edit the raw r3d files in Premiere Pro CC and then export them to either h264, ProRes422, ProResLT or ProRes Proxy (dependent on what the client team chooses).
However, after my first couple of minutes testing the workflow, I notice that I am waiting nearly 5hrs for a 15minute file to encode to ProRes and double that for h264. The file formats are r3d, we shot at 25fps UHD with a 9:1 compression. My system is a new Mac Pro 6 core with dual d700s and 32GB RAM. The media is located on a G Tech Studio XL thunderbolt 2 48TB drive running at RAID 5, and is encoding to the same drive.
This can’t be right can it? Resolve and RedCineX have been far quicker so far….
