Project Management (XDCAM422 files not being consolidated) PP CC 7.2.2 & 8.1 (2014.1)
My facility is working towards switching from FCP to PP CC (7.2.2).
Our current workflow for my group is to create spots from various programs (30 & 60min), media manage to what’s been used and send the MM project to finishing (me). Project sizes 2-6GB MAX.We’ve found that PP CC (7.2.2) doesn’t like to consolidate XDCAM 422 files. From what I’ve been able to find on the Cow and other places, that seems to be a real issue with those who use XDCAM.
We have many movies and TV shows that are XDCAM 422 HD 50MB.
Using PP CC 2014.1 I’ve tried to project manage a :25 sequence that has a mix of ProRes and XDCAM.
Sources are 24:00 – 59:00 full length programs.
Original project size is reported to be 111.5GB.
Resulting project size is estimated to be 64.5GB.
Using Consolidate and Transcode (to ProRes 422) the resulting project size is estimated to be 22.1GB.Is Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 (v8.1) really incapable of media managing (project managing) XDCAM files?
If so, what is everyone doing that uses XDCAM?
One obvious answer is to convert all the XDCAM to ProRes or DNxHD, but really?
450++ programs/movies converted just so we can use PP CC? (I hope not)22.1GB for :25 can’t be right.
