Hey guys, I’m currently working on a project, and I have some text. Now for that text to appear, I would like it to be placed on the screen (either using the z position or scale…z-pos. would be preferable though). Now this obviously is easy to do, but I was wonderring if there was an expression to save some manual keyframing for me, because I would like to “chop” up my text layer into diagonal pieces, all the same size, alot of them, and bring them onto the screen. I could surely do this manualy but it would be long, because I do not want the layers to all appear at the same time, but over a second or 2. So bassicly I’m asking if there’s an expression that will place layers over time. Thank you.

Also, is there any precise way of cutting up my layers?

Dunno, maybe you are looking at this the wrong way (to copy your words from your other post) ;o). Since text layers have no real per-letter-Z-depth, you may have a hard time. The only way I can think of to really precisely control this is to have each letter on its own layer and that’s pure madness. A better solution may be using Card Dance (again) in combination with custom maps. You may need a few layers of Card Dance, but I think it’s still easier than animating everything manually. For chopping the text into pieces, you should look at using transition effects – Venetian blinds can be wonderfully used to isolate separate rows and columns and you can then get rid of excess letters by applying another instance of e.g. a linear wipe. The only downside I see is that you have to work with many, many sub-comps.
