working with editors
Hey,
Just wanted to ask everyone what their experience has taught them about working with editors on graphic projects. It seems that it’s easier for graphics to be seen on longer-cut shots. Also, it’s nice to have about 30 frames of padding on either side of the cut, to allow for graphic transitions. How do you communicate and collaborate with editors, while still allowing them creative input on the project?
Also, lots of high end mograph stuff seems to be flowing from shot to shot, and editing for that is not so much about cutting anymore. Also, it’s hard to change timing on clips and cuts after graphics work has started.
On smaller projects, I usually created a rough timing test. Recently, working with an editor, he seemed to be on a different page than the director and mograph guy (me). How do you communicate these concepts to an editor, while still allowing him creative freedom to do what he’s good at?I’ll probably mirror this on an editing forum.
