how can i make an adjustment layer only effect 1 video/cam source individually and ignore others?
my native .mts multicam ppcc project (two camera + music) got bogged down by too many standard typical effects used in a production i.e. lumetri b/w, 3way color-correction, camera-matching via RE:match plugin, rescaling via motion effect to the point playback became impossible at any resolution.
the multicam edit was done months ago, just needs titles and fade from/to black per dance number and very minor tweaks per “customer edits” so i added the color correction and lumetri ‘fx’ but to continue and finish, i need to regain control of the “effects” applied.
i need to turn one or more video effects ‘off’ TEMPORARILY to edit, but be able to ‘re-enable’ video effects to render. the perfect feature to rescue me now, and to better handle .mts + typical effects (without forcing users to exit ppcc or learn/rely on other tools), would be a 1-click “Global Effects Enable/Disable” button AE and Vegas users enjoy.
instead, the only partial rescue available is to use adjustment layers, but this is only a limited rescue for video/cam 1 only on the timeline not all other video/camera sources. why not? because as i understand it, adjustment layers effect the composite aka all layers in the stack underneath it. so they wont allow me to control each individual video source on the timeline separately.
before i start to create adjustment layers, i kinda need to know how i can make an adjustment layer only effect the 1 video/cam source immediately under it vs all layers under it aka each video source individually and ignore the others. if i can’t, then ‘adjustment layers’ are a solution limited to controlling video 1 effects.
if ppcc can’t do this, then clearly the requests for many years to have that “global effect enable/disable” feature that AE and Vegas users enjoy has gone ignored for many years.

Nest the adjustment layer and the clip and use that in its place.
Or you could add the effects to each source clip as a Master clip.

You could duplicate your video track with all of the effects on it, by selecting everything, clearing the tack above it so you don’t write over anything, and alt-dragging all of the clips up so you now have 2 copies. The higher track is with effects, the lower track is without. To get rid of effects on the bottom, select all clips on that track and click remove effects. Then select each corresponding set of clips and group them to each other, or just be careful when you make an edit to do it in both tracks. Then you can shut the eyeball on the top track when you want to edit without effects and turn it back on when you want them back.
Alternately, you could duplicate the clips onto the second track, then make an adjustment layer in your project panel. With all clips on the second track selected, alt-drag the adjustment layer from the project panel onto the selected clips. This will replace all the clips with an adjustment layer and keep the original effects in place. Then you can remove effects on the bottom layer. This is easier than your cmd-k method in my opinion.

my concern is that i have a finished 2-cam multicam edit: cam 1 on v1 and cam 2 on v2. so the question i had to pose to myself before trying it was this:
if i want to apply an adjustment layer to cam 1 then, as i understand it, i’d need to move cam 2 to v3 on timeline. but having never done this, i must ask if this would alter/kill my already finished multicam edit?
if so, then ‘adjustment layers’ are not a workaround for ‘already-edited’ multicam projects that get stuck/mired by applying 3-4 lumetri-grade ‘video effects’ to clips in the timeline aka poses a hurdle for .mts editors.
so i went to test this in a dummy/copy of project and indeed: i killed my multicam edit -turned it into a continuous black screen. anyone have any insight on that?
so i must pose the same question to all the other ideas posted: will the posted ideas similarly kill my already-finished multicam edit the same way my approach did?

reading through this a few times to try to grasp it. but got lost at the idea where i make the same multicam edit to two sets of sequences… sounds fairly complicated vs tight/clean/user-friendly, but i may try it conceptually out of curiosity.
i see how must rely on adjust layers between camera layers for any new project i start and before a native .mts multicam edit next time, but for now it seems a convoluted riddle.
luckily, i gained enough playback control by turning off a lumetri b/w effect to finalize my edits for rest of show, then turn them on later only to render.
