How to Export after Crop
Say I have some 640×480 footage that I want to crop off the outer edges all around a certain percentage using the crop effect. So for example I have cropped:
Left: 1.2%
Top: 4.5%
Right: 1.0%
Bottom: 1.0%When I export Premiere says the source is 640×480 and if I export at that will export with black bars all around. Was assuming crop would resize the image within Premiere and it would work within the cropped size but perhaps I’m looking at this wrong. Based on what I’m showing above, how do I get the video exported without any black bars and just the content?

More I look at this, do I need to use the motion settings to center the video image and then stretch it to fit as close as possible to the edges all around keeping in aspect?

Premiere will export based on your sequence settings unless you tell it otherwise. If you need your video to have an odd resolution for some reason, change the sequence settings. What is the end product supposed to be? You could run into playback issues if you make an unusual frame size. I would scale or stretch the video so it fills the frame.

Crop in the export settings and then set scale to fill.

Just for archival in MP4 format. And it’s REALLY bad quality other than the cleanup I did because it came from some VHS tapes stored in my basement for years so having an unusual frame size isn’t a concern.
Also for Ann, I never saw a crop setting in Premiere Pro CC export page unless that is specific to certain export formats.

I think she means just choose Width/Height as if you were cropping. If you take a 1280×720 video and export it at 1280×700 it doesn’t squish it down, it actually trims 10 pixels off the top and 10 off the bottom.
I agree though, there should be better options for cropping, even if that means auto creating a new sequence for the crop. I have 40+ different project files for dealing with various 720p source files ranging from 1262×690 to 1280×720. Currently I deal with it in Virtualdub before importing it into Premiere, but it would be nice to deal with it all in Premiere alone.
