  • Using a Matte layer and Fill Layer

    Hi,

    I am pretty new to Premier, working in CC 14. I bought this Wipe transition effect that comes as a Video Fill Layer with Alpha Channel and a Matte layer. The Video is a Laptop flying into frame over my Video Layer A. The lid opens to reveal an image on the screen. That Image wipes open to reveal Layer B within the Screen and then the Laptop move toward camera on off behind the viewer in 3d Space.

    Hope that explains it….

    So the Video layer keys everything perfectly but when the timeline hits the B layer, the B layer is, of course, full screen as well as within the Laptop screen. I understand why this is without laying in the Matter layer or putting on a Travel Matte.

    I put the Matte Layer down and try to Track Matte both the A and B layer tp a combination of both pointing to the Matte layer, both pointing to the Fill layer or cross swapping them to separate layers. The closest I have gotten is the A layer is perfect, but the B layer (the one that should be revealed in the Laptop screen), is perfectly matted to the actual Laptop body and NOT within the screen.

    Sorry if this is long winded and unclear. I have tried to walk through the steps as I have tried them today. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Doug

    V1 = Video A
    V2 = Video B with set matte effect applied and pointed at v3
    V3 = Laptop monitor fill matte
    V4 = Laptop + alpha animation

    i think that’s how you’d do it.

    if you are using a icon matte (rgb channels only) make sure Set matte it looking at RGB and not alpha.

    Thanks so much Alex. I am also impressed that you understood my rambling post. I appreciate it. Though I had tried that way but must have missed that combination. Also, one of the main things I missed was selecting Luma instead of Alpha. That is what probably got me chasing my tail as I was trying different combinations.

    Thanks again.
