  Premiere Pro Media Manager not trimming interlaced files

  So I’ve searched these boards while sitting on hold with Adobe for the past 30 minutes and now it’s past 7p so they probably aren’t going to answer tonight. Here is my problem.

  I am currently getting close to picture lock on a feature documentary. I am attempting to Project Manage and consolidate a test sequence down and send it to our colorist in Boston. When I consolidate the test sequence down (40 seconds long) the folder is about 50gb. This seemed ridiculous. Upon doing some research apparently it is because our footage was shot interlaced not progressive and Premiere has issues trimming interlaced clips. I have found people with this same issue on various forums, but haven’t seen an answer yet other than an article published on Adobe’s website this month talking about a new release for Premiere that is due out some time in the future that will update the Project Manager feature in Premiere. It doesn’t mention specifics of the update or whether it will address this issue with interlaced footage.

  Is there anyone out there that has a solution, work around, or any more info on this bug? Any insight is much appreciated.

  Hey Tony

  I have not heard about issues with interlaced footage, but there are issues with Long-GOP footage if that is what you are editing with. Premiere (to my knowledge) does not currently consolidate files that use Long GOP codecs. I recently had to convert XDCAM HD files to another format (DNxHD) then use project manager to get it to work.

  This partly solved my issue as it did then create new shortened clips, but it missed a couple of shots entirely so I had to export a few manually. Also, when converting i first tried ProRes 422 which should work, but it failed to reduce those clips so thats why I went to DnxHD codecs.

  Project manager is not particularly consistent from my experience, but that may soon change as I have seen the same info as you regarding new updates to this from Adobe.

  Hi Tony,
  Unfortunately, the Project Manager can fail on some file based formats. That’s why it’s completely revamped in the next version of Premiere Pro (due out very soon, sorry I can’t say exactly when). I looked in our database and there is no mention of an issue with interlaced footage. I don’t expect there will be a problem with it.
