  • Importing XML into Premier Pro, no visual in sequence

Long time reader first time poster.

I spent all weekend long editing sequences with red footage on fcpx and then passed it off to another editor this morning to sweeten, and he’s using premiere on a pc. I’m new to premiere, but I had done something similar and so I thought I’ll export .xml files done. Wrong. First I had to export from fcpxml to xml using Apple’s way too expensive tool. Then, when the other editor tried to import the xml files in premier, the audio came through, but the preview screen is just black. When I double click on the visual part of the sequence, it shows me the source clip without audio, but when I drag some of the original footage in, it plays in the timeline no problem. Anybody have any ideas? I’m hoping not to have to rebuild everything in premier.

I haven’t used red sources or fcp x or an apple xml converter, but I had issues bringing an xml from fcp 7 into premiere cc. A 30 minute edit was just garbled at a certain point in the timeline–repeated shots, shots blocked with bars across them. My workaround was to make a separate xml of the second part of the fcp edit, which imported perfectly, and reconnect them in premiere. No idea why pr couldn’t import the full sequence, but pr doesn’t always behave the way it’s supposed to.

I’m also having this problem from FC7, seems to be an unaddressed issue propagated through all versions of PPro as I am now using PPro CC (2017).

I have no access to create a new partial sequence XML file, has anybody determined an efficient workaround to re-import the media to the timeline?

    Thanks in advance.
