  Different sources show as inconsistent sizes in CS6 Program frame and export file

  My project has source files from several different devices in different formats, including:
  – .mp4 Premiere export file from earlier attempt at edited video (actual Premiere project files not available)
  – .MOV files from smartphone (shows as QT movie in Mac directory)
  – other .MOV files from different phone, lower resolution than above
  – .mp4 files imported to Mac from tapes, probably HD-level resolution in source

  The problem is the image sizes are different (depending on original resolution?) in the Program window, as well as in my export to media file. This must be a common situation, but I didn’t see anything about it in the Adobe or CreativeCow tutorials. I found a few forum posts on multi-format editing, but didn’t see where they address this particular issue.

  Q1: Do I need to transcode all the files before importing to Premiere? If so, any recommendations on software and format?

  I tried changing the viewing size (e.g. 25%, 100%, Fit etc.) and got the different formats to match up well enough. But the viewing size selection applies to the entire sequence, not to individual clips.
  Q2: Should I create separate sequences each place the timeline goes from one format to another?
  If so, is there a way to export multiple sequences into a file that will play continuously? Or do I need to stitch together the sequences after exporting?

  Footage from smartphone have this problem of having variable framerate instead of constant framerate.
  Premiere cannot handle variable framerate.
  If these files give issues you need to convert before importing.
