Activity Forums Adobe Premiere Pro Duplicate clips in footage bin

  • Duplicate clips in footage bin

Posted by Phil Snyder on August 14, 2014 at 11:57 am

I’m new user of Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. I’m doing the Premiere Pro CC Eagle Doc. tutorial. After completing it, I started cutting a new sequence using the same clips. However, for some reason, the clips I used in the second sequence were duplicated in the footage bin. When I tried to delete them, I got a message saying that I was deleting clip references (see attachments). In addition, when I did delete two clips from the footage bin, they also vanished from the second sequence.
Why is it necessary for PP to create duplicate clips in the bin for a new sequence? It only leads to clutter and confusion in the bin. Is there a way to prevent this? There is no way to distinguish between the “original clips” and the so-called “reference” clips. I’ve written to the Adobe forum and was asked if I had duplicated the project. The answer is no.

    Hi…

While I can confirm that unlike FCP….footage in a sequence must exist in the Project panel.

I tested in CC (not 2014) by using the same clip in 2 sequences and it did NOT duplicate in the project panel.

that does indeed seem like and unexpected behavior…from everything I know about PPro.

    thanks…

Yes, Alex, it is strange. I just wish there was a way that I could distinguish the extraneous clips and delete them.

it may not be exposed by default, but there is a video usage column in the project panel.

show it, sort by it, that may help.

    Alex,

I was unable to find “video usage” even by clicking the “Help” button. I tried “Remove Unused” but that didn’t work.

in the project panel, right click a column header

    choose metadata display

in the window that pops up, type video in the search box

check video usage box and confirm.

OK, done. This is what I got, am indication of how many times each clip was used.

so….are any of the duplicates 0?

    and just to confirm…

if you start a new project….

    1 clip

create 1st sequence, add clip it.

create 2nd sequence, add same clip 2 it.

you end up with clip clips in project panel?

Phil, when you upload an image, you have to copy and paste the EMBED code into the body of your post for it to appear in the thread.

See this image (will not show up in email, will show up on the forum):

Here’s the image that you posted, for everyone else’s reference:

I think it would be helpful if you enlarged the project panel so we could see the Video Usage column. I think Alex is try to ascertain if you have duplicates that are used versus unused.

    Walter,

Thanks for letting me know about embedding the upload.

Here it is again. Let me know if this works.

    Thanks,
    Phil
