  • PProCC has Death Grip on MacPro — Won’t Launch or Won’t Open Projects

On a new MacPro (10.9.3) editing a couple of months on Premiere and today I activated Beauty Box (Digital Anarchy plug-in) and then the project and app froze. It froze my computer as well. I re-launched the Finder and trashed PProCC (not 2014) preferences, uninstalled Beauty Box. I got it once to load the project, but all I could do was see it– no playing, nothing to click on etc. It was frozen again.

Force quitting and trashing preferences would only get a bouncing PProCC icon in the dock, but no launch. Reboots galore. Tried to open another project, but it would load about 2/3 of the way on the meter and then spinning rainbow. Force quit. Trash preferences. Tried starting a new project at the splash screen but Browsing to the Location to save the file only produced a spinning rainbow with nothing showing in the folder of the project files (which there are aplenty). Force quitting doesn’t always quit the app either. I have to do a hard shut down. Arghh. I’ve had a few temperamental project files and finicky preferences, but this seems well beyond that.
Other apps seem okay. FCP7, Microsoft office, etc.

I’m in the process of a Time Machine restore.

Do you have other suggestions? i.e., What should I do?
    Reinstall PProCC?
    Look for system issue?

UPDATE: After Time Machine restore and then a very hard crash (Froze EVERYTHING after attempt to launch PProCC), the program seems to be happy. I haven’t tried activating Beauty Box again. But I’ll keep you posted.

    Hi Jeff,

Sorry you’re having some problems. I’d recommend updating to 10.9.4 which address some issues that we identified to Apple. Also, make sure you have the latest version of Beauty Box (that goes for any plugin you use).

If you still have problems, one thing to try is to temporarily disable the OpenCL/CUDA hardware acceleration (assuming that you’re using it). Sometimes, issues can be related to the graphics acceleration and temporarily disabling it can help you narrow down where your problems may lie.

    HTH,
    Dennis – Adobe Guy

Now Prelude won’t open a project. I get to the main screen, but just get spinning rainbow after I click “Open Project” icon. Trashed preferences to no avail. No diagnostic help from the program best I can tell. What’s it hanging up on?

I’ve run only software acceleration to avoid the glitches mentioned elsewhere. Don’t think I should update OS mid-project. I’ve also read (I believe on this forum) that people have given up on PPro2014 and 10.9.4.

PPro and 10.9.3 for many people was an unworkable Software/OS combo. We kept everything on 10.9.2 for this reason but one of our machines was mistakenly upgraded to 10.9.3 and when that happened certain PPro projects would not play or export properly. 10.9.4 fixed those bugs and we upgraded mid-project. I agree you normally wouldn’t want to do this, but given all of the known issues I think it’s your best option to get off 10.9.3 immediately.
