.MTS files
I’m not familiar with .MTS files. I have a bunch that I need to look at and am wondering if anyone knows of a way to open them on a Mac, or if you know of a converter that is preferably free of charge and free of malware etc. Thanks guys.

MTS files are AVCHD files from specific cameras. We play them with VLC Media Player, which has a Mac version.

I am actually currently working on a project with .MTS footage. It plays in VLC player and I had no trouble loading it straight into Premiere Pro CC. The only issue I had with importing was that Premiere combined some of my clips. For example, say I loaded 5 .MTS files into premiere named 01, 02, 03, 04, and 05. If 01 through 04 were each 15 min long and 05 was 5 min long, Premiere would still load 5 files with the same names, but 01 though 04 would be identical 1 hour clips and 05 would still be 5 min. My project is using footage from a Canon Vixia camcorder, so that could have had something to do with it, but I thought it was worth giving a heads up.

Nathan, this is quite common behavior when you drag&drop instead of using Media Browser to import spanned clips.

Thank you for the tip on using VLC player. That helped. However, when I would try to convert the footage, VLC would crash every time. I was able to use Handbrake to successfully convert the footage into the format I preferred. Thanks everyone for your helpful responses.
