Upscaling 1024
Posted by Robert Keyes on July 1, 2014 at 12:32 pmHello
I’ve finally found some footage I shot a couple of years ago on a Photron – in 1024 x 1024. Now, ideally, I would like to put this into a HD composition.
Any clues? I’ve heard tell that Red Giant do their Instant HD, but have yet to read any glowing reviews of that bit of software.
Thanks!!
Rob

July 1, 2014 at 3:17 pmThere is quite good option to do it via Virtualdub’s resize filter. But first, have a look at some comparison and small discussion with references to other sources:

July 2, 2014 at 10:23 amHi Marcin – thanks for the reply! Those articles make for interesting reading.
One method I stumbled across was to import the footage into Photoshop CC, then resize in photoshop and make image adjustments using Camera Raw. Strikes me as a good, if cumbersome, method of doing it.
I’m just running a test now to upscale 1080p footage to 4k – just to see if it works.
I’m at 24 minutes per frame, and there are 429 frames. Yeowch.

July 2, 2014 at 1:42 pmPerhaps is to much, but giving a try doesn’t hurt unless you do it frame by frame. Not sure you aware, that photoshop can handle video formats. So, drop your video to PS, make resizing and export as “render video” – you can choose to render via adobe media encoder or photoshop image sequence (at least in CS6).

July 3, 2014 at 7:57 amI did not know that….
However, I’ve given it a go with a 6 second clip that I had sent to me. It’s not the best in the world, but certainly better than I was expecting.
