Making the bin and bin
Okay, I go all the way back to news film, when editors cranked through the film, clipped off the best b roll pieces (“clips” really were clipped back then) and hung them on pins over a bin (“bins” really were bins). Next, they would grab those clips as needed, trimming them to length based on the A roll (wow,, remember A and B simul-rolls), pasting or taping them together and, voila! You had a “hall runner” ready. It was sorta non-linear.
I have no real nostalgia for film (though I miss the editors), but wish that there were a way to do the same workflow quickly in Premiere Pro cc:
1) review video and grab the best segments on the fly (from three seconds to three minutes).
2) hang ’em (figuratively) in a bin (not a timeline, which is horizontal and harder to view when I start assembling).
2) Start assembling and scan those nice big bin thumbnails for my next shot.
There are probably some workarounds (Use a timeline with many video tracks so you get a horizontal and vertical component?). But has anyone figured out a better way?

sounds like you want to review your sources in parallel?

Thanks for the reply. I couldn’t get multi-camera to do what I’m looking for.
I think this may be in the realm of a feature request:
Imagine a panel that looks just like a bin but receives video in a similar fashion to a timeline – you mark rough ins and outs from your raw video in your source viewer, then move those clips into this panel (instead of the timeline), where they can be organized by type or subject or n ot at all. (I know this is sounding like Prelude, but it, too, uses a time-line). I’m just looking for a big box where my many roughcut soundbytes and b roll snippets can be easily perused, with LARGE labels and the ability to slide them onto the timeline.
Does that make any sense?

sounds a lot like a bin ppro to me…
know a couple of things…
1) Bins can live inside bins inside bins if you want literal organization by hierarchy if you wish
2) from the source viewer it’s pretty to create subclips directly to a bin from the the markings of ftg you are working on. This means that when you load a sub clip to the source viewer or timeline, you will only see the portion as marked (but you can override if you were a bit to hasty in the initial clipping.)
3) in the Project panel if you switch to a list view, you can always use the description field (may not be exposed by default) to tag anything you drop in a bin with as many words that mean something to you. then at the top of the project panel you can quickly sift the bin by entering some of those words. as soon as you clear the entry you see all again.
so I think the virtual tools are there…you just kinda need to massage them a bit to get them closer to something you find acceptable. And….explore the keyboard shortcuts…they may help ya too…there are many things that are available to be mapped, but may not be by default.

Also worth mentioning: the transport controls (JKLIO) work with hover-scrub. Click a big icon in a bin and you can play, jog, shuttle and mark it via the keyboard.

Got it! My mistake was in dragging the in’ed and out’ed clip to the bin. All I got was the full clip with in and out markers. I shoulda made it a subclip instead. I’ll create a macro to perform the task.
