Capturing clips from DVD without ripping the whole film
Dear forum members,
I’ve been googling around about this, but haven’t found a conclusive answer.
What I would ideally like to do is just capture small clips from my DVDs, such as I can make into animated gifs.
Is there any way that I can do this using the Capture function (or similar)?Or do I have to rip the DVD (or copy the VOB file[s] and rename the extension), import, then edit down from there?
I will really appreciate it if someone can educate me here. Thanks very much 🙂
Notes:
* I’m a bit of a noob (obviously)
* I have CS6
* In general this is public-domain material I’m dealing with, so copyright isn’t an issue. -

Hi Sam,
You can take individual VOB files from the DVD, and bring them into Premiere. That may or may not work depending on how it was encoded.
If that doesn’t work, you can try to rename the VOBs to MPEG, or you’ll need a DVD ripper that would convert the VOBs to something else.
Premiere only captures from tape.

Download Mpeg streamclip (https://www.squared5.com/) chose open dvd, set in and out point, then convert to your preferred format and edit it.
