I thought I would try this question first in the Premiere Pro forum. I’m using PP CC and I’d like to know what the community would recommend for the best workflow for the following scenario. I’m achieving slow motion on a Canon 5D mk III by shooting 720p/60fps and then using Interpret Footage in PP on a 24fps sequence. The problem is, I can’t output 720p/24fps on my Decklink 4K Extreme, given that my only choices at 720p are 50, 59.94, and 60 fps.

What’s the best way to get back to a sequence that has a 50-60 fps so I can color correct? The final output is going to YouTube or Vimeo, so 24fps is fine for either.

    Thanks in advance.

Well I would stay away from 50 unless you’re specifically doing PAL. I think your 2 best options are to one use a 720 59.94 timeline. The speed will still be right but there will be duplicate frames of the source material. Or use a 1080 23.976 timeline and up-scale. You would then be keeping a 23.976 work flow.

But also I have used 720 23.976 timelines in FCP before and it works. I haven’t tried it in PPro though but that is a legit format so there should be a way. Also stay away from “24P” and use 23.976. Sounds like a small detail but 23.976 is what the real frame rate is in the US and some hardware won’t work right unless you have it set for this.

Thanks so much for the recommendations, Robert, I’ll give them a try. I didn’t even think of upscaling to 1080p. The 720p/23.976 is indeed a legit timeline in PPro, but my BD Decklink 4K Extreme (in a Mac Pro) doesn’t support it for HD-SDI output to my Flanders Scientific monitor.

    Cheers,
