  Avid Style Multicam (Unnested Audio) In Premiere Pro?

  Hi all, I’m working on a documentary with many interviews shot with two cameras, one with multiple audio tracks from booms and lavs linked in. My current workflow has been creating multi camera sequences for each interview with both cameras, so we can easily cut in clips and switch angles in the timeline.

  My main issue with this workflow is how audio is handled. With Avid Multicam clips, I loved how adding a clip into the timeline would also add each audio track, so I’d have camera audio, boom and lav tracks that I can mix and edit on the fly. In premiere, I’m left with a single nested audio track. I realise I can go back into that sequence to mix the tracks, but as far as I understand that would ripple the changes through all the sequences the multi cam clip is used in, where as I’d want to leave all my mixing specific to each timeline.

  I found this tutorial (https://www.larryjordan.biz/premiere-pro-cc-multicam-with-discreet-audio/) which seems to solve my problem, but as far as I can tell that method means I can have any mutlicam clips in my bins, and would have to work entirely from timeline sequences, rather than simply being able to three point edit from a mutlicam clip in the source window.

  Is there anyway to get Premiere Pro to work the want I want? I’m also worried about having nested audio for when we output for a sound mix, since as far as I can tell there’s no easy way to unnest the audio in an edited sequence.

  See if this gets you to where you’re trying to go:

  Select a couple of clips in the project bin, right click and select Create Multi Camera Sequence (name it, choose sync method, sequence preset, etc.)
  Right click on the MCS that is now in your project bin and select Open In Timeline
  Now when that sequence is open in the timeline you can add just audio, consolidate clips in a single angle, duplicate audio tracks to replace audio for specific video tracks (angles) and on and on
  And best of all, in this mode you have a Channel Output Assign icon with each audio track so that you can choose which channel of any audio angle goes to with the corresponding video.
  So then when you have that all set up, right click on the MCS in the project bin again and select Create New Sequence and a new Multicam Sequence will be created ready to edit with.
  The video or audio for each edit (angle) is selectable just by toggling with the number keys.
