  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 – Cannot relink .MTS files

I’ve been editing some video for a DVD over the past few weeks, one sequence which is made up two .MTS files. The files have worked fine during the entire project.

I dynamically linked them to Encore to create a DVD, and even rendered out an ISO to which I sent my client. All of this has worked fine with no problems.

After receiving some feedback, the only changes I made were to update the spelling on a PNG lower third, and I added an .m4a song to the credit sequence.

I then opened my existing Encore project which asked if I would like to reimport the linked .proj sequences, to which I said yes. Then I created another ISO file, which worked fine, except for whatever reason, it did not include the song that I added during the credits.

Now, when I have gone back into Premiere to figure out why, all of the .MTS media is offline. All of the source files are still on the drive, but it will not allow me to relink, stating “The importer reported a generic error”

I know people have reported some .MTS issues, but I have no idea what else to try to get this media back online.

    Please advise.

First, I would try importing your project in a new blank project, and if that doesn’t work…

Not sure the reason, but you could try encoding your mts to something else, Prores on Mac, uncompressed or DNXHD on PC.

Just select the file and hit Ctrl+M (CMD+M)

Try one first, then do a replace footage in your project panel. If that works, drag them all in Adobe Media Encoder and queue them up, then replace them all in your project panel.

Try to deactivate / reactivate the software – should renew all your user prefs.
