    Hello,

Recently upgraded our computers at small studio from 8-Core Mac Pros to iMac i7’s. Noticed an immediate and substantial difference editing, rendering and exporting HD footage from Sony FS700. Opted for the Apple SSD on all four new machines, completely silent and very fast.

That leads me to an interesting question, hopeful someone can help me out.

I now have four (4) 2008 8-Core MacPro’s with average of 16GBs of RAM in each just sitting here. I could sell them OR could I create some kind of a Frankenstein Mac by daisy chaining these together to optimize their strength collectively? For the hi-tech guys, sorry if this sounds ridiculous.

    Interested to know..

    Thanks
    Dan

Good to hear how you thoughts on the i7 imac.
I just bought an 27 imac i7. Upgraded to 780 graphics, 16 ram and flash memory. It’s a beauty!

Media encoder will benefit from the 8-core CPU’s. You might consider using one for transcoding. Also After Effects renders tend to lock up machines, and is once to be able to set aside on a separate machine.
