  Exporting for Charter – suggestions

  Hi there,

  I currently have a timeline in Premiere Pro CS6 which is 1920×1080 29.97 Progressive. I was asked to send it to Charter (Cable provider) for broadcasting.

  Charter allows the following:

  1080i Quick Time MOV:
  1920×1080 resolution
  H.264 compression
  Interlaced Upper Field First, 29.97 fps
  Uncompressed (PCM) audio, 16-bit, 48 KHz
  16:9 aspect ratio (1.0 pixel aspect ratio)

  720p Quick Time MOV:
  1280×720 resolution
  H.264 compression
  Progressive, 29.97 fps
  Uncompressed (PCM) audio, 16-bit, 48 KHz
  16:9 aspect ratio (1.0 pixel aspect ratio)

  Am I better down scaling to 720p or converting (interlacing) to 1080i? Or is there something else I should do?

  Export through Media Encoder. No need to change anything in your project. Just output what they want.

  Sorry, I wasn’t clear on that. The spot is done and ready to export. So sending it to Media Encoder it looks like I now need to either downsize it or change from progressive to interlaced – one or the other. So, is one better than the other? Does that make sense?

  In case it matters, the footage is h.264 .mov. There is some panning but no real fast motion.

  I do a lot of this stuff and have submitted to Charter before.

  for 1080 they all want interlaced upper field first, unless it’s 720P…then it has to be progressive and 59.94 fps.

  Just change the progressive to upper field first then look at it when it’s done.

  Did you make sure the titles were all in a 4×3 title safe zone, so when it
  airs on an SD channel it doesn’t cut the text off?

  Some of my clients have sent them HD safe then have to redo them
  so the station won’t reject them or do the nasty “postage stamp”
  airing with black bars surrounding the tv spot.

  So making it interlaced sounds like the right way to go (even though it’s Progressive now) as long as I change it FROM 30P TO to 59.94i uff?

  The titles are placed in the title safe area so we should be good on that front.

  well technically 30P would go to 29.97 uff but sometimes
  29.97 is referred to as 59.94 fields.

  so ya 🙂
