  H.264 Export

  Hey everyone,

  I have footage from a Canon 5D mark 3, now when I play the footage right off the camera in VLC its completely fine. However, when I take that footage in premiere and export it out as H.264 the color seems slightly dull in VLC but that same export in windows media player is completely fine.

  Can someone give some insight on this issue please cause its driving me up the wall.

  You are recompressing the footage. COnverting the camera’s H.264 into a different H.264 file…and your settings might not be set for a higher data rate. What preset are you using? Premiere doesn’t have a “Export QT with exactly the same settings as the sequence” option like FCP has.

  As for how various media players display it…got me.

  I set up the export settings myself its:

  H.264

  width 1920
  height 1080
  framerate 24fps
  field order progressive
  aspect square pixels 1
  TV standard PAL (thats what the camera was set to)
  profile Main
  Level 4.1
  Render at maximum depth – Unchecked

  Bitrate encoding VBR, 2 pass
  target bitrate 10
  max bitrate 50

  This is exactly how I exported it.

  Now what baffles me is that I have used these same render settings in the past over and over and never had issues today for some reason VLC is giving me issues.

  I do want to mention that in my sequence settings I just disabled “Composite in Linear Color” and rendered again and got slight improvement in VLC. Could it just be that VLC is difficult cause when I take a video snapshot of the Rendered and the Original and set them side by side they look exactly the same.

  VLC can be odd at times…I wouldn’t trust it.

  I just updated VLC on my mac today which solved a no sound issue
  it had.

  try playing it with something else. quicktime on a mac or windows media player
  if you’re on win7 or later.

  Hmm I have to update mine as well, its just I never faced this issue. The quality of the video is perfect just the colors go slightly dull on VLC. Anyway I’ll just update my VLC and see how it goes.
