I was wondering if anyone knew if it’s possible to use the terminal in OS X, for After Effects Renders, the same way that Maya Mental Ray uses the terminal to access all the computing power on the network to render a project, if you do know that it does, how would one like myself go about setting this up???? Thanks

I think you will want to look into some open source Gridiron software.

Gridiron makes XFactor which will do what your asking (for a price). If you want to manually configure everything yourself (including writing some code), check out XGrid.

XGrid, to my understanding, is a robust API for distributed computing (what you want to do).

    Hope ths helps

It’s quite easy to set up on one machine, a bit more difficult if you want it to run across your entire network.
You will have to create your own version of a watch-folder and

All the info can be found by opening terminal and running:

    “/Applications/Adobe\ After\ Effects\ 7.0/aerender”
(just drag the Unix executable file from the finder to a terminal window and it will insert the complete path for you instead of typing it)

This will spit out a help-file on how to invoke the Terminal Renderer.
