    Hello,

I have a 2009 Macbook with 2.6 GHz Intel Core Duo and 8 GB of ram. I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. The rendering times are getting very long. The other day I edited a seven minute short shot with an iphone. The footage encoded to Prores. With three way color correction on all the clips. The render time was an hour and a half. Am I doing something wrong in my workflow?

I’m thinking of getting a new 15 inch retina macbook. But I dont know which one to choose and I dont have a lot of money. Any advice? Thanks

In this case, there are two culprits for why your render times are taking longer than you’d like. First, with CS5 we are forced to work through Quicktime which is a 32-bit (not 64) process and consequently it can greatly affect your speed. Secondly, if you can put more RAM into the system, it will help all aspects of performance (though there are limitations as to what how much we can accelerate 32-bit processes).

With the latest versions of Creative Cloud and Mountain Lion or later, you can encode ProRes with full 64-bit speedy goodness.

    hope this helps,
    Dennis
