Best format for Premiere Pro CC and future achieve
We’re about to renew some of our gear, and I’m giving some thought to longer term archiving, but ensuring that we maintain the highest quality that we can, and ease of editing with Premiere Pro CC.
We are capturing from a range of formats and camera’s: HDV (Z7E) for older material, XDCAM (PMW500/PMW800) and P2 (HPX-3100) for current footage depending on which cameraman we use. We’re mainly using PremierePro CC for editing, although FCPX on occasions. Obviously the MXF format of XDCAM and P2 mean you don’t have one file per clip. We currently back up all material (XDCAM Disc/Cards, P2 Cards) straight to LTO5 tape which is retained in the straight off the card format.
What is people’s thoughts on the best format to use, given that it needs to (ideally) be native to PPCC, be usable and accessible in the future and preferably with no quality loss? I’m wondering if leaving it in XDCAM/P2 is the best option, or whether transcoding to ProRes or DNxHD would be better? I believe PPCC can read DNxHD files now?
I’d welcome any thoughts and suggestions from people?

Either Pro Res or DNxHD would be good for this purpose. Leaving the Media in AVCIntra would also be an option especially if you use OP1A which would likely be my suggestion if you don’t want a paid solution. Cineform would be the overall best option but would require purchase at some point for all of the features.
