  • Multiple editors working on the same project?

    Hi all,

We’re going to be working on a project that will require multiple editors to work on the same project in order to meet a tight deadline. As we ramp up, we’ve installed a 10gbps shared storage server/raid and we’re now experimenting with editing workflow. The idea is to break up the projects into 3-4 blocks and have each editor build their block. From there, the lead editor will combine completed segments and tie them together with pre-produced packages, bumps, music and transitions to finish the program.

We’ve done some initial testing with the following approach: Each editor works on an individual project on their workstation. The project in each of the workstations starts with importing the same media files from the shared storage server. When complete, their timeline sequence (not the entire project) is imported into a “compilation” project in the main edit suite where the show is stitched together.

    Some potentially relevant tech details:

    • Raw footage will be ProRes HD (initial tests & data rate calculations indicate that the media server has enough drive speed and bandwidth to feed four workstations)
    • All workstations will be on current updates of Premiere CC with CUDA enabled video cards
    • Two of the workstations are Mac running latest current OS (10.8.?)
    • Two of the workstations are PCs (one is Win7 and the other is Win8)

    So here are my questions:

    • Does anyone see any potential issues lurking that I’m not seeing?
    • Is this the safest/most efficient approach or is there a better way to approach?
    • What am I missing?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or advise…

Production is fun – but lets not forget: Nobody ever died on the video table!

We have lots of people doing this exact workflow. The trick for the current version is to import the sequence into the main project not a bin or a project. Then you should be ok.

    Cheers

    Hi.
By importing a sequence do you mean that this is done via an XML file? I’ve actually not had good luck with importing an XML file into this particular project and I am wondering if there is another way to simply “import a sequence from another project version”.

I am working on a music project where one editor is working on all of the performance footage edits and another is working only on the BTS footage. We plan on meeting soon and re-combing our work back into one session but the only way I can see to do that now is by the use of an XML file which seems to not be working properly.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Don’t use XML for this. You can import a sequence from a separate project file.

Use the media browser to locate the .prproj file you wish to import a sequence from. This will allow you to choose which sequence you want to import and should avoid duplication of master clips upon import.
