MP4 embedded video freezing
Posted by Simon Matthews on October 3, 2013 at 10:43 amHi,
I’m having playback problems with my H.264 MP4 embedded video on my website. It plays for a short while and then freezes/lags. The video is a long one at 1 hour and 25 minutes. The file size is 1.84Gb although I made a smaller one aswell (1.1Gb) but the same happens with that one too. I’ve included a screenshot of the export settings I used. What do I need to do to make it play properly?
Thanks,
Simon.

October 3, 2013 at 3:09 pmUncheck Frame Blending.
That is only used when output framerate is different from input framerate.
Try a SD Youtube preset.
1 hour and 25 minutes is very looooooooooooong.———————————————–

October 3, 2013 at 3:56 pmThanks for replying. Yes it’s a long video as it contains the entire wedding ceremony and speeches and extra bits and bobs – it’s really boring! I made this one a bit longer than I usually would as it was my sister’s.
Just a couple of things. The original file is 25fps. Should I use Pal or NTSC? And in a quick test the quality looked very low unless I checked ‘render at maximum depth’. Is it okay to check this and will it still play okay?
Thanks.

October 3, 2013 at 5:05 pm25 fps is PAL.
Would your sister not settle for a compilation of say 10 minutes.
The 1,5 hours put on dvd or bd.———————————————–

October 3, 2013 at 5:14 pmMy sister already has it on DVD but I want to put the entire video onto my website so they can watch it straight from there instead. What’s wrong with having a video of that length on a website then? Is there a problem with doing this or is it just something that you don’t like personally? YouTube has many videos much longer than this that play fine.

October 3, 2013 at 10:15 pmYour website host must be able to host such a lengthy video, unless you have your own webserver.
You can also put it on YouTube set it to hidden and then embed on your website.———————————————–

October 3, 2013 at 10:35 pmThanks, well the file is uploaded to my host (iPage) so I’m guessing that means they can host videos of that length?
Just uploaded a new file with the frame blending unchecked but the video is still freezing all the time. Any ideas why? Do you know what export settings I should use?
I tried uploading the file to YouTube but it’s being blocked on copyright grounds all the time because of the music, even when it’s an unlisted video. That’s why I’m not using YouTube for this video.

October 4, 2013 at 10:31 amJust uploaded a 5 minute test and it played okay, so it must be something to do with the length of the video. I’m going to make a shorter version by cutting out most of the ceremony and speeches but I’d still like to know how you can upload a feature length video without it freezing just for future reference. Is there like a safe bitrate range or safe export setting or something that I can shoot for in order for feature length videos to play properly whilst maintaining some quality?
