  • How to play full screen?

Posted by Kent Beeson on September 8, 2013 at 3:25 am

Using PP CS6 – I’ve stretched the workspace across my two 24″ monitors, nice – but now how do I or can I tell PP to play my timeline cut full screen on one of my 24″ monitors?

With FCP 7 I would just hit command f12 and it would play full screen on the monitor I pre set…

    Thanks

Highlight the Program Monitor and hit the tilde key. In CC you can also hit Command/Ctrl + tilde to make it full frame no matter what window you’re working in. Can’t remember if that was available in CS6.

Thanks – that does work, but what I had in mind was for just one of the monitors to play full screen – not have it divide in the middle the same as I have my workspace – any thoughts?

Yeah, it’s in your Sequence Settings or Project Settings I can’t remember which one. I don’t edit with dual monitors anymore. But I used to and you can select the 2nd monitor for program out there. Or at least you could up to CS5. That’s the last time I used 2 monitors. And I think you only get the dialogue to do it if you have 2 monitors coming out of your card so that’s the best I can come up with.

Thanks for the help – the tilde did work, I think the issue is I’ve split my workspace across two screens and somehow PP won’t therefore lose one part of the workspace to play only on one monitor.

Create two windows–one for each monitor–instead of stretching one window across the two monitors. Just undock a panel, move it to the second monitor, and populate it with other panels as desired. Save the workspace under a new name if you don’t want to change the existing preset.

Alternatively, you can designate one of the displays as a full screen monitor using the Device setting under Preferences > Playback.

“Alternatively, you can designate up one of the displays as a full screen monitor using the Device setting under Preferences > Playback.”

I think this is what I want to do and this does work (the Preferences > Playback setting) BUT, is there a way I can activate the full screen monitor by a key stroke like f12 in FCP 7?

I’d like to have my workspace across two monitors, but then hit some key and only one of the monitors plays the source or program window (whichever I choose) full screen, then hit a key and screen goes back to my dual screen layout/workspace…possible?

    Thanks

In older versions of Premiere Pro by you could do this by going into Project Settings > General > Realtime Playback > External Device. I am not sure about the recent releases (can’t check right now).

Yep. That’s the setting I was thinking of. You don’t even get a tab for it unless you have two hooked up I guess.

Just checked in CS6 and it appears the full screen monitor cannot be toggled while working with two screens; it is either always on or always off.

I think you’re right…I hope to update to PP CC in October – does CC offer what I’m talking about, or the same as CS 6?

    Thanks
