  Psychedelic Premiere Export Render Issues – What the heck?!

  Please help! My renders have color distortion/changes.

  I am working on a project that was shot with a Red and a 7d Camera. I set my project on Red settings. Yes, I now know this wasn’t the correct way to go. Everything worked amazing until I rendered my project out, and now I am seeing weird color issues and pixelation. The colors are not as they should be. In some spots, it’s fine, in some sports the black background is now gray, a layer of white appears over the screen, it seems random, because like I mentioned, sometimes in the project it works fine, other times it pixelates and or has wild, different psychedelic colors. This is only a two minute trailer I rendered out. I am now worried if I have problems at this point on the project while working on the trailer, what will the full feature film be like?! (Shudder).

  I have tried a few things I have seen on this and other boards, including:
  – upping the bit rate to highest settings
  – upping the max bit rate
  – checking the render at maximum depth
  – clicking on the use maximum render quality
  – using h264
  Also I have gone from 1080 rendering to 720 rendering which seemed to work better, but still artifacting, just not as much.

  Any and all advice is appreciated. I am a former FCP user and Premiere is great, but as with all software, new programs mean new challenges. Thank you for all of your help for those that reply.

  MAC SPECS: Mac OS X Version 10.6.8, processor 2 x 2.26 Ghz Quad – Core Intel Xeon, 10 GB 1066 Mhz DDR3.

  SOFTWARE SPECS: Premiere Pro v. CS6.

  PLUG INS USED: Neat Video Denoiser.

  SEQUENCE IN TIMELINE: Sequence settings: timebase 23.976 fps, 3840 x 2160 vertical 16×9. Video previews 1920 x 1080 -frame only mpeg.

  MEDIA EXPORT SETTINGS: Basic video settings: 854 x 480, 23.976 fr progressive square, level 3.1, clicked render at maximum depth, bit rate settings vbr, 2 pass, target rate 17.5, max rate 17.5, Advanced settings key frame distance 72, checked use max render quality, use frame blending, file size is 376 MB. Legnth of project is 2min 59 sec.

  Thank you for posting the detailed information. This might be a media player issue; I have experienced similar problems in QuickTime with High Profile H.264 videos. Try importing the encoded file into Premiere Pro to see if the issues persist. Also, for higher compatibility use Baseline or Main Profile instead. Try encoding a test clip using Baseline @ L4.1, 2-Pass, Target BR=50, Max BR=50, Key Frame Distance=12. This should produce a 480p file around 7-8Mbps at 24fps. Also, on the Multiplexer tab check that Stream Compatibility is set to Standard; it defaults to iPod.
