Premiere Pro, all Playback devices are greyed out and none can be chosen
I’d like to add Premiere Pro CC to my edit toolbox along with Media Composer and FCP. But one issue is making things difficult. In Premiere Pro CC Prefs, all my Playback options are grayed out and none can be chosen. This includes any Adobe choices (Adobe DV or Adobe Monitors 1 and 2) or my BMD DeckLink Studio card.
However, In Prelude CC I see all the same Playback prefs. They are all available options. And I can choose the BMD card and see video output. Monitor Output even works with After Effects CC through the BMD card. I even get video output through the BMD card with both MC v7 and FCP v7.
I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing the latest versions of Premiere Pro CC and BMD drivers. Also tried earlier versions of the BMD drivers. I’ve checked the forums and tweaked everything that I’ve seen regarding preferences and parameters. Perhaps some file is causing a conflict or perhaps a file is not in some correct folder? I’d appreciate any thoughts.
My system is a Mac Tower, OSX10.7.5, 2-2.66 6-core, 12GB Ram, Premiere Pro v7.0.1, BMD driver 9.7.7

Is the player in Preview settings greyed out as well?

You may have accidentally disabled Transmit. New in Premiere Pro CC you can Enable/Disable Transmit from the Program Monitor panel menu. You can also set a keyboard shortcut for this.
To verify Transmit is enabled go to the Program Monitor panel menu (top right of the Program Monitor) and mid way down the menu make sure ‘Enable Transmit’ is checked.

Peter, as I was reading your response I was so so hoping that this suggestion would solve my issue.
Woo! Woo! Enable Transmit was deselected. Once selected my Playback Prefs were all available including the BMD card. I now have output to my external monitor. I have no idea how or when that got deselected but it sure won’t happen again.
If I could ask one other question of you – Why is it that when I “make sequence from clip” for an mxf p2 file it won’t playback to my monitor, but a “make sequence from clip” for a mxf file from a Canon 300 will. Would that have something to do with Premiere or BMD?

Not sure why that’s happening when your creating a sequence from clip. What frame rate is your P2 file? And what sequence settings is it creating?

Peter, I found some interesting information as I looked at various settings.
When looking at the files in the Media Browser, the Canon file type was Canon XF and the p2 file was Panasonic p2. After importing them into a project and clicking on file properties, the Canon file type was noted as XDCAM 422 while the p2 file type was p2. When creating a sequence from each clip, the Canon file sequence Edit Mode was Custom and the Preview File type was I Frame Mpeg (like an XDCAM file) while the p2 clip sequence for both Edit Mode and Preview were Panasonic p2. In both cases the frame rates and frame sizes of the sequences were matched to that of its clip.
While the p2 sequence will not display on the external monitor, a p2 clip will play out to the display if it’s cut as the second clip into the XDCAM sequence. I do see that above the p2 clip is a red bar, although playback is smooth.
What’s your thoughts?

I have the same issue with my Playback Settings being greyed out. Not only that, but my video does NOT play in the Reference window. Everything else works flawlessly EXCEPT the timeline video playback (sequence composite video playback). When I navigate through the MEDIA BROWSER, I can see my videos. I can also double click on my video and it will play in the corresponding [Source] window above. HOWEVER, when I bring that same video to my timeline and play the footage, I hear the audio but the video DOES NOT show up. [SEE ATTACHED PICTURE] I am using .MOV files coming from my Canon Mark II and Mark III. I do have some third party software installed for Adobe After Effects (Red Giant) but from my research that should not be an issue for this software. I have tried a number of fixes that I have found online:
1. Switching from GPU to Software only when starting PP also within the actualy program. This worked only once and never worked again.
2. Unistalled, Reinstalled, Upgraded, etc…
I am using the following system:

Premiere Pro CS6On my computer I have the entire Adobe Master Collection CS6 and I have no problems out of any of the other programs…as far as I can tell. I have used Premiere before so I know it shouldn’t be doing this. As well as create a new sequence. I have tried a number of different ways of doing this but nothing seems to work. Could really use some help.

My issue was solved by making sure that the “Transmit” function in the Program Monitor settings was enabled.

and how about on PC? I couldn’t find “Enable Transmit” in the roll-down menu…

Hi Robert,
It looks like you have CS6. Is that correct? This is a Premiere Pro CC feature.
As far as the Export menu being grayed out. Make sure you first select the Timeline panel and then go to File>Export
