PPro CC 5.1 audio
Can someone please explain to me why there are provisions within the CC software to set up 5.1 audio monitoring, but no apparent method of actually exporting 5.1 (or greater) audio? I still only see a mono or a stereo option when exporting and nothing else. Why would you be able to listen to 5.1 audio in an editing room, but not be able to export that audio the same way you’re hearing it? Even after I setup a sequence with a 5.1 audio setup on the master, my basic audio settings are only a choice between mono and stereo.
Please tell me I’m missing something…

Look at the tracks tab when you’re setting up a new timeline. You can select as many output tracks as you want.

Thanks – I discovered the option for 5.1 in the export window finally when selecting uncompressed audio. However, unlike FCP 7 where you can create multiple audio configs, it looks like we’re limited in CC to mono, stereo, or 5.1. My problem with this is that I frequently have to output a QT file with more than just 5.1 audio on it – it may have the 5.1 mix, plus the stereo DME as well. Don’t know how I can do that here.

As mentioned you can output a file with up to 32 tracks. I usually do 5.1 as an 8 track output. BTW you set your output tracks destination in the audio mixer…with panning the L:R stereo pairs to one side or the other.

Hi David, I appreciate the information that you’ve provided in this thread. Would you be able to provide any additional information on what your 8 channel 5.1 surround sequence setup looks like as well as the method by which you output it? I am currently working on a project for broadcast and trying to determine the best way to facilitate my clients 5.1 surround plus stereo comp (same file). Is this fully accomplishable in Premiere?

HI David it is actually very possible to do. all you have to do is select 5.1 or multi track audio when you first create your sequence you set this up in the Tracks tab of the sequence settings. if you have already finished your project and want to export in 5.,1 then create a new sequence and set your video presets so it matches your project. then click on the tracks tab, you can then select 5.1 or multi track audio you can then select the number of tracks and pre name them. then just copy and past your stereo sequence into the new one and export away you will now find in the export window on the audio tab that you can export 5.1 or how ever you decided to set it up.

My post was from two years ago – since then, Adobe has improved on its audio sequence assignments. The latest version of PPro CC (9.0.2) allows for true 5.1 track targeting. I’ve already used it in my work, and can now export a real 5.1 mix with other tracks assigned to stereo or mono.
