Rewrap M2T files for Premiere CS6 failure –> Evil Red Screen
M2T files, recorded on a Hard Disc recorder, appear to rewrap fine in Clipwrap. They play fine in Quicktime. When imported into Premiere, the video appears to have no problem importing. When you scrub the video, however, it has occasional frames of video, but most of the clip shows up as the Dreaded Red Screen in Premiere. Just did a little checking, and the good frames are at XX:XX:XX:00, XX:XX:XX:12, XX:XX:XX:24, XX:XX:XX:36, XX:XX:XX:48. All the rest are solid red. This seems to be consistent that every 12th frame is good and the rest are red.
The failure occurs with a Clipwrap “Rewrap” setting and also with an “HDV” setting. If I take the rewrapped file into Compressor, export an HDV, it works fine. The rewrapped file DOES work in Final Cut Pro X on the same computer. It also works on FCP7 on an old OS 10.4 machine.
The original M2T file even works directly in Premiere. The only reason that file isn’t being used is that the projects like this are being shared between a FCP7 Machine, and a Premiere Pro Machine, and we need it in a file type that BOTH systems will recognize. FCP is fine with the Rewrapped MOV, and PPCS6 is fine with the original M2T And the opposite matchup are a no-go. Would love to simply Rewrap in Clipwrap and have it work. Clipwrap is so much faster than anything else, and doesn’t really even convert the footage. That is part of the reason why it baffles me that the original works fine, and the rewrap doesn’t.
Any Ideas? Is it a 720p60 thing?
Steps: Everything is up to date. I did the terminal “defaults write -app clipwrap iMovieAVCHD YES” thing. I’ve trashed preferences. I’ve rebuilt permissions. I’ve even gone old school and zapped the P-Ram.
