  ProRes plays on PC desktop but not local Raid or Server…

  This is frustrating…

  I received 1.5+ terabytes of ProRes 422 footage. The 3rd party editor transcoded in FCP 7 through Log and Transfer. I need to get these into Premiere Pro CS6.

  Problem: These ProRes 422 files won’t open in Quicktime from our server OR my local raid (VLC WILL play them from both locations). “Error -50: an unknown error occurred” is what reads upon opening. However, Quicktime opens them fine when copied to a PC’s desktop…

  Anyone ever have this issue? I’m new to PC’s and have never had problems playing ProRes files.

  UPDATE:

  I’ve found an annoying solution… but a solution nonetheless.

  I took a file from the server and moved it out of its organized folder. It plays fine. My only guess as to why this happened in the first place is pointed at the sync/backup that was executed.

  -50 is, according to the all knowing Google, a file read error; usually a drive issue. Your solution points to the possibility of a folder permissions issue.

  What’s the server situation? Mac-based with access through a Window’s Network Drive connection? Perhaps rebuilding permissions on that drive/Raid may help the issue from the Mac machine.
