Here’s my problem, I have graded my clips in daVinci Resolve and exported the clips with 50 frame handles before and after their in and out points (I also tried without handles), however when I offline the media in premiere and re link it to the clips rendered out from resolve, the in and out points are all messed up.

The durations of the clips from resolve are shorter than the original media but the timecode is the same. Surly premiere should be able to reconform from them. I have no problems if I export the clips in their entirety from daVinci, premiere has no problem conforming from them.

I would usually finish in daVinci, but some complex effects applied in Premiere necessitate this work flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Daniel.

Yeah…I don’t think that conforming to trimmed media works unless Premiere Pro does the trimming with the project manager (and therefore rebuilds the database to reflect the new media durations)… Otherwise, even though the source TC might be correct, the media duration overall, is wrong.

So…I guess you might try trimming the media with PPro (project manager) prior to sending it to Resolve, or send back the clips from Resolve without trimming tbem.

The link and locate feature in CC should respect the timecode when you relink. I think that will do what you want.

    Daniel,
In the mean time, you might try some of the workflow suggestions in this video.

    Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. I’m running CS6. Unfortunately at this stage I can’t justify the ongoing expense of CC. The introductory upgrade pricing is almost feasible but only good for a year.

To be honest, I was a little surprised to find that CS6 didn’t re link based on TC. I’m guessing it is working internally by absolute frame number.

    Cheers,

    Daniel

Thanks also Tim and Kevin for offering your advice.

Normally if I needed to round trip I would send an XML back to Premiere, but there was a whole lot of scaling, animation and split screening going on in Premiere that had to be maintained. I ended up rendering whole clips from Resolve, which renders fast enough but there were a lot of very long takes to be rendered.

    Cheers,

    Daniel
