Separate your image into it’s components using Shift Channels, use Radial Blur on each and blend them back together using the Add mode.

From looking at the page it looks like a blur around the edge of the frame, yes?

An adjustment layer above the footage, with a Blur Effect (Gaussian or other Blur to taste), then a rectangular mask (round the edges if you wish)on the adjustment layer, Invert the mask, and crank up the Mask Feather (40+) and you’ve got it. Unless I’m not seeing the effect correctly.

I tried making an Animation Pre-Set, by highlighting the Effect and Mask under the Adjustment layer, and it partially works, In a new comp you need to first add a new adjustment layer above your footage, then Apply Animation Preset (and choose your version of Lens Destroyer) and it adds the effect and Mask to the Adjustment layer. Unfortunately it only works on the same size footage, so you’d need a new preset for various formats, but still useful if you works in one format a lot.

    Hey Mylenium —

I can’t get your method to work properly. I was also going to use this to simulate ‘diffraction’ like in that new hyundai commercial. It looks almost like light is bending, and a similar effect was used in harry potter — the Azkaban one — when he’s on the lake and says hocus pocus and makes those strange grim reaper like monsters fly away. Its like having a forcefield — but we’re bending the light on the edges of it like a prism and the center is scaled up.

    If that makes sense, rock!

[Dave LaRonde] “Make 2 duplicates of the layer in question, making a total of 3 layers. Separate into RG&B layers with shift channel. Apply the add blend mode to the top 2 layers. Apply radial blur to each layer, and adjust to taste.”

Yepp, exactly. sorry if this didn’t become clear in my initial post. You can also use the Channel Blur effect without separating the image first but I find it gives less desiarable results and is difficult to control.

    Thanks!

I’m almost there with it, just tweaking….
