Please! – Shift I/ Shift O – Not working In Source Window – Why???
There must be an answer. I’m starting to think something is buggy because this was working until I exported an XML of the project and re-imported the same xml. I did this because I made the mistake of not having my audio setting set to mono when bringing in 5tb of footage to start the organization and editing of this project.
And also, these clips that I had marked the in/out points for in the previous project – now that I’m into the new imported xml of the same project – when I bring a clip from the source window down to the time line that has in/ out points, the audio does not match the in/ out points of the video. It’s often longer or shorter.
Please folks, If anyone has the answer, I’d be most grateful 🙂

What exactly are you seeing in the source window? Are you calling the clip from the timeline or the project panel?

I’m double clicking the clip in the project window and that loads it to the source window. I see the in/ out points (w/ green bar) that I set in the clips but I can not hit Shift I/ Shift O to move the playhead to them. When I do hit Shift I/ Shift O, the playhead moves to the beginning and end of the clip.
This has happened now with several XML projects that were sent out of FCP7 (and imported to PP) and also my latest PP project that was exported out of PP as an FCP XML and then imported back into PP so that I could have both mono tracks available to me (see above in my OP)
It would really be great to have this sorted out,

Hmmm…first off, you know that PPro lets you just select all that footage and set the audio to be 2-mono instead of 1-stereo, right? Right-click, modify, etc…
I’d have to attempt to do some XML exporting to see if I can duplicate it at this point…I’m on Windows and don’t pass much work back and forth… It sounds like something weird in the way PPro loads the XML file, or possibly a limitation of the FCP XML format itself.
Anybody working on a Mac able to try to reproduce this one? Probably more productive than a Windows guy going through the motions…

– There are tens of thousands of clips contained in dozens of folders. Would PP allow me to do this with just a few clicks?

You can certainly select all the clips in one folder…it may take a while to process…
You could also change your preferences and simply tel PPro that all stereo audio should be handled as dual-mono, though you’d probably have to then re-load the material…and of course anything you WOULD want as stereo would have to be hand-converted the reverse of what I was suggesting earlier with a right-click and modify.

Good to know that I can select all the clips in one folder and convert them to dual mono.
As mentioned earlier, I have re-imported the entire xml project file with the audio settings set to mono. I am coming from FCP7 and see having dual mono tracks as a good thing. Although I have to say that I don’t really understand why PP would default audio to one stereo track or why that would be a good thing.
To solve this my original issue, I went back to all the media in the project, to where the in/ out that I had set were in each clip and re-entered the in/ out points again so that now everything is correct again. But this still did not solve the original problem outlined in my o.p.
I sure hope that I am really setting up this project properly (ie. bringing everything in dual mono) so that I will mitigate problems that can surface down the line. My project file is 125mb (5tb in media) and I haven’t even started editing yet… still in the very early stages of organizing. I’d be extremely grateful if you have any suggestion on how to proceed or if there are any important measures that I should keep in mind to ensure that the project can slowly continue to build with the least possible problems.
As always, I appreciate and am grateful to have such a great community of friendly folks to go to for help 🙂
