  • Adobe Wish Form regarding perpetual license for Production Bundle

Kevin M. was helpful in suggesting we submit a “Wish Form” so Adobe knows what we want. I think thats a great idea. Here is where you can send it.

    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

And here is what I sent. Feel free to copy/paste it or send your own words to them.

    *******Enhancement / FMR*********
Brief title for your desired feature:

Many of us loyal customers want an alternative choice to the Cloud. We would prefer the continuation of the perpetual license.

How would you like the feature to work?

The perpetual license would work in the same manner that it has for years. I buy the Production Bundle at full price. Every year I pay an upgrade price for the new version. If I decide not to upgrade I still have the ability to use my most current version as long as I need.

Why is this feature important to you?

It is important to me and other editors for many reasons. One primary one is access.Ownership allows use to continue using our tools and have access to our projects once we have purchased the product. Deactivation due to suspended payment would not interfere with this very important access.

Lots of folks express the strong desire NOT to be involved in the Cloud. They want a choice. Lack of choice could have dire consequences in terms of how a lot of editors will feel about Adobe.

We appreciate how well Adobe listens to our needs as editors. Now we will find out how well they listen to use as customers.

Did you mean to say “would” interfere?

BTW, I definitely agree w/ your position.

    Thanks,

I don’t get it….have they decided NOT to offer perpetual licensing for CS 7?

Let me put it this way. Every Adobe person I spoke to at NAB made no mention of it and pushed HARD for the Cloud (at times I felt like I was talking to car salespeople). 😀 When I directly asked about it as an option they told me they could not talk about it.

Rather then wait to find out that is the case when they release the product in a month or so, I though it would be smart to be proactive and let Adobe know how folks felt about being limited to the Cloud. And what alternate option they want (ie the continuation of the perpetual license model).

We will find out soon enough.

    wow. that’s very unsettling.

    thanks Tom.

Truth be told, I’m a bit annoyed they didn’t mention a release date.
Not even a “2nd quarter 2013” or even something vague.

You’re welcome Chris. I thought so as well. That motivated me to communicate with users and Adobe alike.

Lets hope for the best. I still am a huge fan of their products and their people.

    Me too.

I seldom ever spring for the “latest greatest” in software
releases because they usually introduce a slew of new problems.

Premiere CS 5.5 and later have all been the exception and
I can’t wait to start working with CS 7.

nope, but I personally have decided to take the intervening time going a bit headless chicken and freaking out about the dark implications of CC and the end of ownership.

It is a way to pass the four weeks.
We’ve, (well I’ve) been freaking out about editing software for so, so very long now post X, it will be really really strange if it calms down after CS7.
The editor fight or flight instincts are gone berserk at this point.
