  • Black Shadow layer not rendering out when exporting?

Posted by Dan Caz on January 25, 2013 at 7:09 pm

I am using Premiere Pro CS5.5 and I have this reoccurring problem.

I have 3 video tracks. On 3 (top)I have my subject shot on a black background. On 2 (middle) I have a feathered shadow (Photoshop file) behind my subject and on track 1 (bottom) I have my background. I change the blend mode on track 3 to “lighten” and the black on track 3 disappears into the background I have on track 1. I use the shadow on track 2 so that my subject doesn’t disappear too. It works great. Everything looks great. I render a preview and everything is working great until I export the video and play it in say VLC player, but the shadow layer is not there! It doesn’t render out at all. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

It’s a dark background so its hard to tell with these images, but it’s obvious on an HD video.

This is what it looks like in Premiere.

    Hi Dan

Did you tell Premiere to use your preview files on export? (a check box at the bottom of the export dialogue).

This looks like the CUDA issues discussed in this thread – https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/3/935493. People are actually defending Adobe over these kinds of issues.

I’m at home so I cant test this, but I suggest you turn off GPU rendering for the Mercury engine and retry.

I am exporting it without previews right now. I’ll let you know. And thanks for the link too!

Update: Unfortunately exporting without previews didn’t make much of a difference, maybe slightly. I’ll try to disable the GPU rendering…

I originally exported it with previews, had the problem, then tried without previews and still the same problem. I am not exactly sure how to disable gpu rendering.

    Thanks

    Hi Dan

It’s in Project settings. There’s a drop down under Video Renderer and Playback.

    Thanks

    What are you exporting to?
