  Premiere hangs up when using the effects panel

  When using the effects for still photos I am consistently beachballing after applying one or two effects to photos whose average size is 6MB. I can edit video no problem and and the project is not harmed after force quit but I simply can’t work like this…..anybody else having this issue?

  I have the newest PP download on a MacPro 17″ laptop, 16GB RAM, 700 GB available disk space, running the project off the internal HD. Just had the system reset and OS Mountain Lion 10.8.2 reinstalled. Graphics card is an Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.

  Adobe troubleshooting has not been any help on this – ideas?

  Are the photos in CMYK color space by any chance? Check that they are in RGB first off.

  Then see if you can drop the file size at all to help. 6MB is fairly large for a photo, I try to drop the file sizes down when possible. Say a photo is 4000 x 2500 and I’m working in 720p space. I’ll drop frame size of the photo down to something like 2500 wide so I still have zoom / pan capability but the file size itself is smaller
