We’re working on switching from FCP7 to Adobe CS6 in our studio, and after 8 solid hours of internet searches and crashing my system about 20 times today I need some help.

We used to log and capture from the Sony XDCAM discs from XDCAM Transfer into FCP7. I continued to use XDCAM Transfer to log and capture but then import the clips into Premiere CS6. This seemed to work. Another co-worker attempted to use the media browser to bring clips in and had some issues with the audio randomly dropping out. We have been using the Apple XDCAM HD 1080i60 35 Mb/s VBR codec.

Today I found Prelude and by all accounts it looked like the answer (because we wanted to phase out using XDCAM Transfer). Yet, it will not load any of my clips in the Ingest window. I can see the first one and nothing past that. Prelude will also force quit randomly or cause my system to just completely shut down (gray screen with please power down message).

At one point I did manage to ingest a few clips but once I took my Prelude project into Premiere nothing would playback no video no audio.

I guess the short story is, has anyone found a good workflow to go from XDCAM discs into Premiere? ?

hopefully that’s enough info for some help.

I myself have had issues with xdcamHD discs in CS6 on a job, ended up having to ingest to prores on a second machine running avid.

What happens when you try to view the material inside premiere pro off the disc by using the “media browser”?

When I bring them in using the media browser sometimes they play back fine, other times the audio drops out randomly. I can play it back once fine, the next time the audio might drop out for a few seconds. It seems completely random as to when it wants to work or not work.

We use XDCAM HD here a lot…I’m sticking with XDCAM transfer for now (via PDW-U1), as you stated, it works. We are using the apple XDCAM HD and XDCAM HD422 codecs, 1080P… I do get an occasional audio drop out, but it is much better than when I tried the mxf files direct.

Ok thanks. For now that’s what I’m sticking with. I’ve had no issues with it. My boss on the other hand has a new MAC and is having issues installing XDCAM Transfer and does not want to install FCP7 on his system so it was more of looking to the future when we no longer have this wonderful software!
