  Best method to optimize macbook pro

  I have a macbook pro 2011. 2GHz Intel Core i7 4GB ram that I am trying to get up to scratch for Premiere pro CS5 and After Effects.
  I am upgrading to 16GB RAM and have been assesing different options for a second drive but am not to sure which road to go down as I don’t know what would offer the most performance.

  Option 1. Replace current 500GB 4500rpm Hard Drive with OWC 480GB 6G SSD, then run old hard drive externally using OWC On the Go enclosure with Firewire 800.

  Option 2. Perform same hard drive replacement and run an external 1TB Seagate EHD (that I already own) with a Thunderbolt adapter/cable.

  Option 3. Obtain OWC Data Doubler kit, replacing optical drive with old hard drive and installing 240GB 6G SSD (slightly hesitant towards this one).

  Im sure there are many variables but any feedback would be much appreciated including any alternative options, these were the 3 that made sense giving my budget ($600 ish) although my tech knowledge is fairly limited.

  Hi Ed,
  I have option 3 and it is awesome. I have had three macbook pros and have taken the optical drive out of all of them and put in a larger secondary drive. currently we use a SSD for the home drive and a 1tb for the optical drive and it is great. Apps boot super fast off the SSD and we have the 1TB drive for editing.
  AND if you have enough space to set the render files to your SSD you will get insanely fast render times.

  Thanks Andrew, sounds like that could be my best option.
  Although the hard drive I would install in the optical drive would only be 5400rpm, do you think that would still be sufficient for read/ write ect.
