  Video does appear in source/program Windows

  I’m working on the road with tight deadlines and having a BIG problem. When I double click a clip in the project bin it does not appear in the source window. When I put the clip on the timeline it does appear in the program window. When I play the clip I cannot hear any audio.

  I’ve tried resetting my workspace. I’ve also tried to restore Premiere to previous versions but unfortunately it was never backed up.

  Do I have any other options? It is virtually impossible to edit.

  Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

  Operating system?
  GFX card?
  Version of Premiere?
  Source of originating footage, or codec if it’s been converted already?

  Have you tried clearing your media cache or trashing your preferences (hold shift while Premiere starts)? These are two standard “clear the cobwebs” solutions.

  Sorry, I’m not a very “technical” person.

  I’m using Windows 7 and Premiere CS5.

  Not sure what you mean by “source of originating footage.”

  When I go to thumbnail view in the bin, it just shows black squares. However, if I drop a clip on the timeline and export it, the exported version looks and sounds fine when played through windows media.

  I have cleared the cache and trashed my preferences.

  Sounds like a codec issue.

  In your bin, right click a file that isn’t working and select properties. Copy and post here the information in the window that pops up.

  And what I mean by originating source, the camera or capture device.
