Premiere changes modified date on h.264 files?
Posted by Enrique Aguirre on December 14, 2012 at 6:18 pmDecided to test drive cs6/premiere on a simple project shot on an hdslr. Really liked some of the Pr features but found it a bit lacking in the editing tools dept. I use close gap and select all tracks forward a lot and couldn’t find the Pr equivalent. Also have been told Pr doesn’t run too well on a Kona 3. Playback varied between no audio, out of sync audio and heavily distorted audio. but i digress…
Since i had to get the project finished, i jumped back to FCP and tried to transcode using log and transfer but the footage database no longer works. Seems like Pr changed the modified date on the qt file. Anybody else run into this? Also, am i not looking in the right place for additional editing tools/buttons?

December 14, 2012 at 6:35 pmFWIW, I have a Kona 3 on my HP Z820 with CS 6.03 and the latest drivers. Playback is rock solid with no issues .

There’s no keyboard shortcut for close gap. Click on a gap to select it and hit Delete, or right-click in a gap and choose Ripple Delete from the context menu.
To select all tracks forward, hit the A key (Track Select), then hold Shift (to make it work on all tracks) and click. Tap the V key again to get the Move tool back.

One of the easiest ways to find stuff (if you know what you’re looking for) is to use Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts — it’s searchable.
There’s also this:

December 14, 2012 at 8:01 pmthanks, walter.
do you think i limited my options by loading up the fcp 7 keyboard layout? i did spend some time
on the keyboard shortcuts page and it looks like the list on your attached link looks more extensive.
i did check the aja drivers and they’re the current ones. the audio probs still make the system unusable. -

I don’t know. I’ve been suffering through learning the native shortcuts for new apps. It’s a bit confusing in the short term, but I think it’s a more future-proof approach for the long term as developers add more features.

From AJA themselves (see an Audio issues with CS6 Kona 3 thread [link]:
[AJA Sales Department] “It’s critical that both the System Preferences audio settings and the Premiere Audio Hardware preference not be set to “AJA”. If either is set to AJA hardware, drop outs and distorted audio will result. Also important: if the setting in either case is incorrect and then corrected, the system must be rebooted before audio will be restored to correct operation. The usual settings for the Mac OS audio should be “Line Out” or “Internal Speaker,” etc. Anything other than “AJA”. For Premiere, the usual setting should be “System Default” etc. and not “AJA.”
This information was provided in the Release Notes document supplied with the latest AJA Adobe Mac Plug Ins:
https://www.aja.com/ajashare/ajadocuments/AJA_Adobe_Plugins_Mac_10.3.pdfFrom that document:
• AJA KONA and Io Core Audio drivers are not used in Premiere Pro. The Core
Audio driver will show up in the Premiere Pro Audio Hardware selector, but users
should instead select the Premiere Pro default audio device. If the Core Audio
driver is selected, some audio problems may occur. See the the AJA Adobe Plug-ins
manual for more information on setting up the audio output in Premiere Pro.If you need assistance configuring the audio, please feel free to contact AJA Technical Support via phone or email.

December 14, 2012 at 9:05 pmthanks for the audio tip. i de-selected kona 3 in both my system and Pr prefs. Pr seems
to be working better although i can’t get audio if i open a qt or mp3 at desktop level.one more question-freeze frames?

December 14, 2012 at 9:39 pmThe modified date thing disturbs me as well. In preferences under “media” you can de-select write XMP data on import, which will stop premiere from messing with your media.
