  “Project appears to be damaged” nearly every time.

  I’m pretty new to Premiere Pro, but I’ve searched and can’t find a definitive answer to this:

  Just about every time I launch Premiere Pro CS6 and open my most recent prproj file, I get an error “This project appears to be damaged, it cannot be opened.” The first time it happened, I hoped it was an anomaly, but it happens (nearly?) every time. I’ve set Premiere to auto-save very frequently, and I can always recover from the most recently auto-saved version. So it’s not a disaster, but it’s very annoying and slightly worrisome.

  I find people in forums saying this happened after a particular event — an unexpected shutdown, a hard drive that gets disconnected, etc. But there’s nothing like that for me. It just happens every time I launch.

  In between launches, I may leave Premiere running for days, putting the computer to sleep without quitting. This doesn’t seem to affect performance, or the auto-saves.

  I’m saving my .prproj files to an external drive, if that matters. It’s a Drobo connected via FW800.

  Any ideas? Is there a complete list of events/situations that are known to cause this error?

  This happens here now and again, it’s unstable software sometimes, on mac anyways.

  Have you tried a “Save As” ? with your project. Usually works here.

  I would also try saving to another drive, perhaps your system drive, to rule out any problems with the Drobo or firewire bus.

  1 – Project files should NOT be saved to an external drive. They should be saved to your primary system hard drive. You can backup your projects to an external drive, but you should be working daily from your main system drive.

  2 – This is an ongoing problem with CS6 which Adobe is aware of and they assure me they are addressing the issue.

  We simply create a “New Project” and import the “corrupted” project into that and keep going.
