Media Management
We are an all FCP shop. The capture folder has all the media in a folder for each project. The Render folder gets deleted at the end of a project. How does media management change in Premier? I also need to edit on media that might live on another Mac’s RAID. Can that be done in Premier? I cut all day long in FCP with media on another system. We backup the FCP project file and media.
How does the workflow differ in Premier? I know there is this cache folder and a couple other folders on the drive. Can you organize by project? Can you customize where media goes for each project? Would that be a workable solution in Premier?

Scratch disks are a local, project-level setting rather than global, system-level preference. You can set them wherever you like, per project. This makes it a lot easier to let the capture and render files ride with the project, because you do not need to constantly reset your scratch disks every time you open a project.
Premiere is similar to FCP in that it doesn’t actively manage media the way Avid or FCPX does; however, Pr’s re-connect is a bit weaker than FCP’s.
A file must exist in the Premiere Pro project panel in order to exist in a timeline, unlike FCP.

As I said above, Premiere doesn’t actively manage media, so it doesn’t care where it lives.
I’m not sure I’d advise using your method, but I am sure you have a good reason.

In Premiere > Preferences > Media, there’s a checkbox to store media cache files next to the originals where possible. Use this if you want to override the central media cache.
