Hey all, looked around the forum quite a bit but still can’t find a solution. So here’s my set up:

    Windows 7 64 bit
    Intel i7-2600 3.4GHz
    16 GB DDR3 RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6350 512 MB

Editing 1080p video from a Canon 7D. Playback in the timeline is choppy and freezes constantly. Plays OK for a few seconds then gets choppy. Sometimes longer, but can;t get more than 15 seconds. Even with playback resolution at 1/2 or 1/4. Any ideas?

One of the most important things in playing back compressed HD footage is your hard disks configuration. Media have to be placed in your fastest hard drive, programs and OS in different hard drive.
Have a look at this thread: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/931788
Having a Nvidia MPE compatible graphics card also helps, yours is not.
Try also clearing old media cache in Preferences window.

My hard drive is a 7200 RPM Seagate 1TB. Model number ST31000524AS. I know I could have a faster hard drive set up, but I figured this would suffice for at least normal playback through the timeline. Especially if I downed the playback quality to 1/2 or 1/4.
