  • Premiere playback frozen when using 44.1k audio

I’ve posted about this on another thread but it may not actually be related to that issue.

Quick bit of background: I’m working in a school that runs premiere cs4 over a network (groan…). We recently updated the network to CC4/Windows 7 and we’ve had a few bumps.

The main issue I’m stuck with now is video not playing. The source monitor is fine, but when footage is placed on the timeline, the program monitor just won’t play. The play button acknowledges the action and becomes the stop button, but then reverts back after a moment.

I managed to pin it down to a specific problem. This only occurs when an audio is using a track with a 44.1k rate. For our purposes, this is mostly everything!

I can get playback working by either removing the soundtrack or convert it, which is fine for now but as the students begin working it’s going to become a massive problem.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

(Project settings are typically DV Pal – 48k. I have tried setting a custom project that uses 44.1k but this makes no difference).

Sorry for the long winded post!

Have you tried Sequence > Render audio?

Premiere Pro conforms all audio to 48k which means any playback at 44.1 is being processed real time. This is true even if the source clip is natively 44.1

    That’s my first suggestion.
