    you have to use a third party capture utility
    that came with whatever card you have.

    Yep, the VU meters don’t work during capture/ingest in CS5.5 or CS6, but work with Black Magic’s Media Express (using a BMD card). Unfortunately, when using Media Express, you don’t get all of the codec options that you do with PPro.

    I find this to be an essential tool. How can a faced paced editorial house rely on third party plugins for, lets say, batch digitize. This is a no brainer. C’mon adobe, you can hover thumbnails but you’ve missed something as essential as meters for digitizing.

    While I agree with you on the VU meters in capture/ingest, saying you need third-party software isn’t actually accurate. You just need to use the software that came with your capture hardware, which I wouldn’t call third-party, PPro is closer to third-party.

    Huh? PP Third party… I could see if BM was supplyng the edit software, but in this case, they are not. Point is we need VU meters on capture internal to the editing software.
