  Major issue with XD .mov file in CS5

  Hello, earlier on I downloaded a file sent to me which is a .mov from the States.

  Ive requested more info on the file but that’s all I have for now.

  The file did not play in windows media, qt or divx stating codec was not recognised.

  I downloaded VLC player and I was able to finally play the file. However I was not able to import into my nle to edit (PPCS5).

  I run the file through Gspot and it determined the following:

  .mov
  Recommended display: 1280 x 720
  Audio 48Khz

  Video Codec: xd59.
  Status: Codec Status Undetermined

  I need to import this file into CS5 in order to do a simple edit, and encode for DVD use.

  I have read up on previous scenarios on this forum, but the methods are too in depth for me to follow. Can anybody recommend a method for a newbie which I will be able to do from home, without having to pay for new software.

  The fourCC code is for an XDCAM file.

  You’ll want to go into Premiere, go to Menu > Windows > Media Browser. This will open the media browser panel. Navigate to the file and drag it from the Media Browser to your library. If it doesn’t work then you may need to do a little trickery

  XDCAM files live in a very certain folder structure, visit the page below and it will link you to a duplicate folder structure to download that you can place your MOV clip in it and fake it. Premiere might recognize it.

  There is another problem in that the file has been converted/rewrapped as XDCAM files are either MXF or MP4. Its like saying you have a paperback book but this needs a hard cover… same information, different container.

  Alternately, you could rewrap the file to MP4 and give it a try with MPEG Streamclip https://www.squared5.com/ and try the same method as above.

  If it still doesn’t work, there are many tutorials for converting files within VLC, but it’s not the best quality and there are few options.

  If you are on a PC….Apple .mov XDCAM files are impossible to open on a PC. Like apple HDV and intermediate codec the codec is not available in quicktime on a pc. At least I am pretty sure.
